Chocolate Banana Bites (Printable version)

Sweet banana slices dipped in rich chocolate and chilled into bite-sized treats.

# What you'll need:

→ Fruit

01 - 2 large ripe bananas

→ Chocolate Coating

02 - 7 oz semisweet or dark chocolate, chopped

→ Optional Toppings

03 - 2 tbsp chopped nuts (peanuts, almonds, or hazelnuts)
04 - 2 tbsp shredded coconut
05 - 1 tbsp rainbow sprinkles

# Directions:

01 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and prevent sticking.
02 - Peel bananas and cut crosswise into ½-inch thick rounds.
03 - Place banana slices in a single layer on prepared baking sheet. Freeze for at least 30 minutes until firm to the touch.
04 - Heat chopped chocolate in microwave-safe bowl at 20-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each, until completely smooth. Alternatively, melt over simmering water in a heatproof bowl.
05 - Working quickly, remove banana slices from freezer. Spear each slice with fork or skewer and dip into melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off.
06 - Return coated slices to lined baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with chopped nuts, coconut, or sprinkles while chocolate is still wet.
07 - Freeze for 15 minutes or until chocolate coating is completely set.
08 - Enjoy immediately while frozen or allow to thaw for 2-3 minutes for softer texture.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They satisfy that ice cream craving but come together in minutes
  • Perfectly portion controlled so you can actually stop at two or three bites
  • The chocolate stays satisfyingly snappy while the banana inside gets almost like custard
02 -
  • Frozen bananas are absolutely nonnegotiable or you end up with mushy chocolate coated sadness instead of that satisfying frozen center
  • Work quickly once you start dipping because chocolate starts thickening and bananas start softening faster than you expect
03 -
  • Double the chocolate coating for an extra thick shell that really snaps when you bite in
  • Let the finished bites sit at room temperature for exactly two minutes before eating for the perfect texture balance
